Body of Christ Orphanage

Pastor Mary Watare Mbugua had a dream to establish a humanitarian centre for the truly needy, the poor, the less fortunate, and those who have faced discrimination in life. After tragically losing her son in a traffic accident, she decided that anything she would’ve given to her son (love, food, shelter, clothing, education) would now be given to the children in her community.

She began taking in orphans in 2004, and as the number of children kept growing, Pastor Mary realized that more could be done than just housing and feeding the children. She started a free nursery school, currently educating 75 students daily.  The school is run by three full-time teachers and a cook, and is regularly helped by volunteers coming from around the world. The staff are paid from Mary’s own pension as well as through a baking project that supplies cakes to local shops.

We highly encourage you to visit the BOC during your travels, not only to support our charity and play with the children, but to see and reflect on the harsh inequalities that mark the places we visit.
